MODELS

Concept Models
Concept models are typically low-cost models used to help communicate or verify design information. Used early in the design process, concept models can reduce costs and shorten development times by making sure everyone is "on the same page". This is particularly true when working with complex shapes and assemblies.

Concept models are usually used where speed and low-cost are more important than cosmetics and accuracy.

Precision Pattern produces Concept Models using Stereo lithography (SLA), and CNC. Concept models are typically produced in a few working days. This rapid prototype technology has numerous benefits for customers.
Precision Pattern customers use Concepts Models to:

  • Verify complex designs and assemblies
  • Evaluate multiple design alternatives
  • Communicate complex designs to clients, partners, and investors

Form and Fit Models
Form and Fit models are designed to accurately reflect the physical dimensions of the design. They are typically used to physically verify that the proposed design can be assembled with the other components. Accurate Form and Fit models allow engineers to verify the design for initial assembly, as well as for disassembly and maintenance. Use of Form and Fit models early in the product development process reduces the possibility of collision problems and it gives other organizations, such as Field Service and Manufacturing, an opportunity to provide valuable feedback while it is still cost-effective to make design changes.

Form and Fit models are ideal for ergonomic analysis of handheld electronic devices, medical equipment and computer input devices.

Precision Pattern produces Form and Fit models using Stereo lithography (SLA), 3D Resin/Wax printing, CNC and Cast Urethane technologies, depending on the specific requirements. Form and Fit models can be produced in as little as a few working days. Precision Pattern customers use Form and Fit models to:

  • Verify the fit of complex designs and assemblies
  • Facilitate input from other organizations, such as Manufacturing and Field Service
  • Perform packaging studies
  • Conduct ergonomic analysis

Functional Models
Functional models are designed to simulate the properties of the final product in as many ways as possible. This can include physical properties such as weight, heat deflection and strength. Functional models are used to verify the performance of the design in various operating environments. Functional models enable engineers to evaluate designs early in the development process, while it is still cost-effective to incorporate changes.

Precision Pattern produces Functional models using Stereo lithography (SLA), 3D Printing, CNC, and Cast Urethane technologies, depending on the specific requirements. Functional models can be produced in as little as 1 or 2 working days. Precision Pattern customers use Functional models to:

  • Verify the performance of complex designs and assemblies
  • Measure performance characteristics Conduct life-cycle tests

Presentation Models
Presentation Models are designed to look and feel just like the real product. Features such as textures, paint and inserts enable Precision Pattern to create Presentation Models that are virtually identical to the real product. Presentation Models are ideal for use in focus groups, trade shows and other sales and marketing activities.

Precision Pattern produces Presentation Models using SLA, CNC, and Cast Urethane technologies, depending on the specific requirements. Presentation Models can be produced in as little as 3 working days.
Precision Pattern customers use Presentation Models to:

  • Show product concepts at focus groups
  • Promote new products at trade shows
  • Assist in the sales process
  • Prepare sales and marketing literature prior to final product availability
